Managing People
People are at the heart of everything you do in Nonprofitable. Every donor, volunteer, event attendee, and supporter lives in your people database. And there are no limits -- you can add as many people as your organization needs, on any plan.
Adding People
There are two ways to add people:
Manual Entry
- Go to People in the sidebar.
- Click + New Person (or use the quick action on your dashboard).
- Enter at least a first name and email address.
- Add optional details like phone number, address, and any tags.
- Click Save.
CSV Import
For bulk additions, use the CSV import tool:
- On the People page, click the Import button.
- Upload a CSV file from your computer.
- Map your CSV columns to Nonprofitable. fields (name, email, phone, etc.).
- Review the preview and click Import.
- The results screen shows how many records were created, updated, or skipped.
The importer handles duplicates by matching on email address, so you can safely re-import updated lists without creating duplicate records.
Your Fields
Every plan includes your own custom fields so you can track data specific to your organization -- things like "Board Term End Date" or "Preferred Language." The number of fields depends on your plan (5 on Free, 25 on Starter, unlimited on Growth and above). Your fields appear in the person detail drawer and are searchable.
Searching and Filtering
Use the search bar at the top of the People page to find anyone by name or email. For more advanced filtering, create an audience -- a saved set of filter rules that updates automatically as your data changes.
Keyboard Shortcuts
The People list supports fast keyboard navigation:
- W -- Move selection up
- S -- Move selection down
- D -- Open the detail drawer for the selected person
- A -- Close the detail drawer
These shortcuts are shown in the shortcut bar at the bottom of the page. They are disabled when you are typing in a search box or editing a field.
The Person Detail Drawer
Press D or click a person to open their detail drawer. Here you can:
- Edit fields inline -- Click any field to edit it. Press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.
- View relationships -- See linked people like spouses, employers, or household members.
- Browse the activity timeline -- Every interaction is logged: emails received, events attended, gifts made, volunteer hours, and manual notes.
- Manage tags -- Add or remove tags to categorize this person.
- Navigate between records -- Use the Prev/Next arrows in the drawer header (or press W/S while the drawer is open) to move through your list without closing.
Organizing with Tags
Tags are the simplest way to categorize people. Common examples include "Major Donor," "Board Member," "Volunteer," or "Event Speaker." Tags are shared across the platform -- the same tag system works for people, events, and volunteers. Learn more in Tags & Organization.
