Donor Status & Engagement Scoring

Donor Status & Engagement Scoring

Nonprofitable. can automatically track how connected each person is to your organization — how recently they gave, how often they show up, and what you might want to do next. These signals appear in every person's profile and can be used to sort your People list and build Audiences.

This is a Starter plan and above feature. On the Free plan, you'll see an upgrade prompt where scoring would appear.

Donor Status

Every person who has made at least one gift is assigned a donor status based on how recently they gave:

StatusWhat it means
NewFirst gift was within the last 90 days
ActiveHas given within the last 12 months
At-riskLast gift was 12–24 months ago
LapsedLast gift was more than 24 months ago

People who have never given do not have a donor status.

Status updates automatically whenever a gift is recorded or imported. You can also sort and filter your People list by donor status, and use it to build audiences (for example: "everyone who is At-risk" for a re-engagement appeal).

Engagement Score

The engagement score is a number from 0 to 100 that measures how active a person is across your organization. It counts three types of activity:

  • Events — attending events and registering for upcoming ones
  • Email — opening emails and clicking links
  • Volunteer hours — time logged in your volunteer records

Giving is not part of the engagement score — that is captured by donor status and lifetime giving. The score is weighted toward recent activity: something that happened last month counts more than something that happened last year.

Use the engagement score to find your most connected supporters, or to spot people who are engaged but have not yet given.

Lifetime Giving

Each person's profile shows:

  • Lifetime total — the sum of all recorded gifts
  • Trend — whether their giving is up or flat compared to the same period a year ago (trailing 12 months vs. the prior 12 months)
  • This fiscal year — total giving since the start of your organization's fiscal year

The fiscal year is configurable. See Settings below.

Suggested Next Action

When you open a person's detail drawer, you may see a Suggested next action card. This is a rule-based recommendation based on the person's donor status, engagement score, and recent activity. Examples:

  • Send a thank-you — if the person made a gift in the last two weeks with no follow-up recorded
  • Welcome them — if they are a new donor
  • Check in — if they are at-risk (haven't given in over a year)
  • Re-engage — if they are lapsed (no gift in over two years)
  • Invite to give monthly — if they are an active, highly engaged donor who is not yet a recurring giver

Deceased people never receive a suggested action — the platform's outbound-suppression rule always applies.

The suggestion is shown as a prompt to help your staff decide what to do next. Nothing is ever sent automatically.

Sorting and Filtering by Scoring Fields

On the People page, you can sort by:

  • Donor status
  • Engagement score
  • Lifetime giving
  • Last gift date

You can also build an audience using any of these fields. Four pre-built audience templates are available to get you started:

  • At-risk donors — people with At-risk status
  • Lapsed donors — people with Lapsed status
  • Highly engaged — people with an engagement score above 60
  • Major donors — people with lifetime giving above $1,000

Fiscal Year Start

By default, "giving this fiscal year" is calculated from January 1. If your organization uses a different fiscal year — for example, July 1 through June 30 — you can change this in Settings → General → Fiscal year start.

The setting affects the fiscal-year-to-date total shown in each person's profile and in scoring calculations. It does not affect lifetime totals or donor status.
